This is a guide to learning Irish. Many people are stuck indoors with the Covid-19 pandemic. Be safe, everyone. If you want to try learning Irish for the first time or to brush up on the Irish you already have or learn something you didn’t know before about the language, this is for you. Parents, you can learn this with your children and see if you can all learn to spell your names aloud. Have fun with it.

Let’s start at the very beginning. ABCs. This is often neglected in Ireland but it’s important so let’s right the wrong of its neglect. Irish letters have sounds. Can you learn them? The challenge for Day 1 is to learn to spell your name aloud in Irish. Good luck.

The next thing you need to know about the alphabet is that it only has 18 letters. The one in the video above was the English alphabet with the Irish sounds of the letters.

Beginner: Duolingo (a free app) Irish. If you choose Gaelic, you will learn Scottish. That is not Irish. It is a different language.
