Fós ag obair ar seo, a chairde. Tá mé ag ceapadh go bhfuil na fir ag caint faoi na fóid agus cé chomh fliuch is atá siad, ní faoin aimsir. Ceapann siad go mbeadh sé níos fearr an obair seo a dhéanamh is iad tirim agus go mbeidh sé dian ar an asal bheith ag iompar ualach mar sin. Sin a cheapaim ach nílim cinnte fós. Is cailleadh é an obair seo a dhéanamh agus an mhóin fós fliuch.
I think what is happening here is that the director wants them to pile the turf high in the donkey’s baskets. The problem is that the turf is wet and heavy and it’s not fair to the donkey and an awful waste of time and turf. It would be better to wait until the turf is dry. Note, this is my second listening session and I wrote what I thought I could make out. I will come back to this to try to improve the accuracy. Sometimes it’s really hard to make out, especially when people are speaking at the same time.

Director: Go ahead.
Mar tá siad ana-fliuch. Because they are very wet.
Go ndéana .. May it/they be made …
Tá siad ró-fhliuch. They are too wet.
Níl a fhios agam. I don’t know.
Tá siad ana-fliuch. Fliuch go léir. They are very wet. All wet.
To the donkey: Sochair, a bhuachaill. Steady, boy.
Tá siad ana-fliuch. They are very wet.
Féach orthu go léir. An-fliuch. Look at them all. Very wet.
Fliuch go léir. All wet.
Gan dabht. Without doubt.
Cuirfidh sé isteach go mór ar a ghuaillí. It will be a strain on his (the donkey’s) shoulders.
Tá siad ana-fhliuch ach níl leigheas ar rud nach féidir: ní féidir é.
They are very wet but there’s no cure for something that can’t be cured: it can’t be.
Ach caithfimid a bheith ar siúl i gcónaí. But we have to keep on going.
An [d]tuigeann tú é sin, a bhuachaillín? Do you understand that, boyo?
Ara, a mhac, an tig liom …? Ah, son, can I…?
Is fearr an rud ná… The best thing is to…
whirr
Oh yeah. Is cailleadh. Is cailleadh go léir, léir, léir.
Oh yeah. It’s a loss. A complete, complete, complete loss.
Tá tú ag iarraidh asal breá mór. You need a fine big donkey.
Is cailleadh go léir é. It’s a complete loss.
Níl aon bheo. Níl aon rud ná aird ar an rud atá caillte.
There’s nothing. There’s nothing or no attention given to the thing that’s lost.
(daoine ag caint bag an am céanna – deacair é a dhéanamh amach
a leithéid de lá? people talking at the same time – hard to make out such a day?)
Ach beidh an aimsir breá geal amárach má tá tú…
But the weather will be fine and bright tomorrow if you …
whirr
ah now, tá an lá go
ah now, the day is…
whirr
Director: Go ahead.
Now, cailleadh anseo. Níl aon scéal, a bhuachaill. Sin é an scéal.
Now, this here is a loss. There’s no story, boyo. That’s the story.
Hú! Hú!
Whoa! Whoa!
whirr
Cén angle atá uaidh? What angle does he want?
Director: Wait. Put the peat in.
A. Ní peat. Cén angle atá leo? Tá sé ag caitheamh go leor ama.
Not peat. What angle do they want? He is spending a lot of time.
Níl …ann. Is é an t-ádh atá ormsa a bheith …
Is not.. I’m lucky to be…
Duine eile le Béarla Someone else with English: Will ye work on hard?
Níor shíl [mé] go leanfadh sé i bhfad. I didn’t think it would last long.
Ní sin atá agamsa in aon chor. That’s not what I have at all.
Tá go maith. Fine.
Tá tú ag briseadh amach. You’re having success.
Chuir tú do dhóthain slachta ann. You put enough of a polished effort on that.
Déanadh maith, ceart go leor. Dia leat. Well done, right enough. Good on ye.
